SF HERITAGE GALA '24: A NIGHT CELEBRATING
San Francisco Heritage Foundation, Green Room
On the evening of Thursday, September 5, 2024, we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of San Francisco Heritage’s successful project to save and relocate historic buildings for reuse by Western Addition residents.
In 1974, eleven Victorian-era flats and houses were spared from demolition and in early-morning hours were towed west to new locations in the neighborhood. Restored and added in the National Register of Historic Places, all of the buildings still stand and continue to provide housing for dozens of San Franciscans.
After a 5-7 pm VIP networking reception with drinks and heavy appetizers in the War Memorial’s elegant Green Room, the evening will continue with a big-screen public show in the adjacent 800-seat Herbst Theater. Archival films and historical photos of the 1974 “house migration” will be featured with segments celebrating the cultural vitality, history, and resilience of the Japantown and the Fillmore neighborhoods.
