THE SAN FRANCISCO WAR MEMORIAL & PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

is a landmark cultural institution owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco.

Bites & Beverages

Whether you’re stopping by for a pre-show cocktail, midday meal, quick snack, or coffee break, we’ve got something for you. Our campus offers a range of dining and grab-and-go options for guests and visitors.

Accessibility

Adorned by a series of stunning Frank Brangwyn murals originally painted for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Herbst is also distinguished as the site of the United Nations Charter signing in 1945.

Community

The Atrium Theater is available for rent when the San Francisco Opera is not in residence. The mix of historical and contemporary details creates an environment appropriate for a wide variety of events.

With sweeping views of San Francisco City Hall, curved glass-enclosed lobby offers views of Civic Center and the War Memorial Opera House, this 2739-seat auditorium is ideal for concerts, speakers, readings and presentations.

In addition to our resident company opera and ballet performances, the 3006-seat auditorium may be available for lectures, classical concerts, recitals, and other performances that can be installed within an existing production.

The primary rehearsal hall (A) features an orchestra pit, fly space and stage area with dimensions equal to those of the War Memorial Opera House. Halls B and C are ideal for minor staging, choral and orchestra sectional rehearsals.

An open, flexible space designed for meetings, performances, rehearsals, workshops, and receptions. Welcoming patrons with large glass doors and a skylight ceiling that bathes the space in natural light.
