COVID Information Take a virtual tour

War Memorial venues are open for performances and events.  To prevent the spread of COVID-19, facilities are being managed in compliance with all Orders of the Health Officer.

Venues are carefully monitored to ensure the safest possible environment. In addition to enhanced cleaning protocols in all spaces, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC) are operating in accordance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. This includes the use of outside air and completion of the recommended number of air changes per hour, as well as the installation of MERV-13+ rated air filtration pads.

Venue Protocols (see COVID-19 Vaccination and Masking Policy for a complete list):

  • All venues are operating at 100% capacity.
  • War Memorial, San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Symphony front-of-house staff, concessions personnel, security guards, stage crew, and event managers are fully vaccinated.  Licensees presenting in War Memorial venues will be required to verify that their staff, crew, and volunteers are fully vaccinated. As of February 1, 2022, this will include requiring Boosters.
  • Wearing well-fitted masks is required indoors for everyone, except people who are performing onstage or actively eating or drinking. A Well-Fitted Mask does not include a scarf, ski mask, balaclava, bandana, turtleneck collar, single layer of fabric, or any mask that has an unfiltered one-way exhaust valve.
  • Food and beverage service is available at performances in the War Memorial Opera House and Davies Symphony Hall but is not always on offer in the Herbst Theatre, The Green Room, or the Wilsey Center. Food and beverage is not allowed to be consumed in auditoriums.
  • War Memorial Licensees must require that all patrons, performers, crew, volunteers, and/or staff who are twelve (12) years of age or older provide proof of Full Vaccination prior to entering the facility. In addition to Full Vaccination, Boosters are also required for those people sixteen (16) years of age or older who are eligible to have received a Booster based on the time elapsed since completion of their initial vaccination regimen as defined by Orders of the Health Officer.
  • Persons aged five (5) to eleven (11) years must present proof of Full Vaccination, or a negative antigen test result received in the 24-hours prior to their entry, or a negative PCR test result received in the 48-hours prior to their entry. Persons aged two (2) to four (4) years must present a negative antigen test result received in the 24-hours prior to their entry, or a negative PCR test result received in the 48-hours prior to their entry. For persons aged two (2) to eleven (11) years who are performing in, or otherwise working on, a performance or presentation, said person may furnish proof of one (1) negative test result per each week of performance or rehearsal.
